What You Need to Know About Ready-Mixed Concrete

Ready-mixed concrete is a semi-finished construction material composed of cement, aggregate, mineral additives, chemical admixtures, and mixing water. It is produced in computer-controlled batching plants with specific or special designs and delivered to the user as "fresh concrete." Ensuring quality production is as crucial as its proper and conscious use at construction sites.

Ready-mixed concrete production begins with quality control tests of cement, aggregate, water, mineral, and chemical admixtures. All materials are continuously monitored to comply with TS EN 206-1 standards. The production process is managed by an automation system. Materials are weighed by a computerized system, mixed in a pan mixer, and transferred to transit mixers. Mixing times and ratios are automatically calculated based on the formula. The production process is supervised by the plant operator and documented with technical reports.

Concrete strength classes range from C8/10 to C100/115, where the first number indicates cylinder strength and the second indicates cube characteristic strength. Production should comply with TS EN 206-1 standards. 28-day compressive strengths are specified according to TS-500 (kg/cm²).

When obtaining price quotes from ready-mixed concrete companies, strength is often the sole criterion. However, consistency, maximum aggregate size, chloride content, and environmental exposure classes should also be considered for accurate pricing. Upon delivery at the construction site, record the plant departure time, arrival time, and unloading start time. Unloading should be completed within two hours if possible. To prevent segregation, avoid pouring from heights exceeding 1.5 meters. Use a conveyor hose without spirals and a vibrator if possible. Adhere to curing procedures for the first three days; chemical curing agents may also be used.
